Nitriding of Flycrank pins

October 2024

The recently forged and machined flycrank pins are now ready for Nitriding. The order has been placed with Aalberts Surface Technologies Heat Ltd and whilst not a lengthy process we hope to share some photos of the process soon.

Castings delivery to Boston Lodge

October 2024

As reported in the last 762 Club Newsletter a number of further castings from Peak Patterns had been ordered. These have now been successfully cast and delivered.

L&B Autumn Gala

September 2024

Another successful L&B Autumn Gala was held over the 28th and 29th September at Woody Bay.

Good to catch-up with members old and new.

Particular thanks to 762 Club Members Ted Lawrence and John Jones selling a range of their own collectables and model railways in aid of the 762 Club raising over £600.

Machined Motion Brackets

As reported in the last members Newsletter the motion brackets were about to be machined. This process is now complete with the photo showing examples of the machined brackets.

Flycrank Machining Complete

The flycranks needed to complement the wheelsets have been cast by Peak Patterns and have now been fully machined by CMS Cepcor. The next step is to send for nitriding of the pins.

Legacy Gift 762 Club 5" Gauge Model of YEO

In Apr last year The 762 Club received an email from an unknown supporter of the 762 Club. John Fysh contacted us to inform that he had built a 5” gauge model of YEO and wanted to leave it to the 762 Club. John’s wife, Wendy contacted us a year or so later advising of John’s passing.

Narrow Guage South Event

Saturday 27th Saw the 762 Club pop across to Eastleigh to attend Narrow Guage South organised by the Wessex Narrow Guage Modellers group attend Barton Peveril College in Eastleigh.

It was a good opportunity to support members of the L&B Thames Valley Group; Mike Pearce, John Jones, Roger Beazer and Brian Grant and my thanks for their camaraderie on the day!

News Update November 2023

Hornblocks and Axlebox keeps machining – in progress

The machining of the hornblocks, axleboxes and axlebox keeps for Yeo and Exe is underway at Boston Lodge. The steel castings were painted on delivery to stop rusting and blue indicates that this particular hornblock is destined for Exe.  Once machined and completed the hornblocks will be bolted to the mainframes to accept the axleboxes

Progress Report September 2023

Castings for a number of parts for Yeo & Exe have been cast by Peak Patterns ltd in Sheffield. These are now with the WHR FR at Boston Lodge for machining.

Included in this batch are driving wheels, front & rear frame stays, hornblocks, bogie frame stretchers, axleboxes and keeps, slide bar brackets and radius links for the Joy valve gear.

An auction for an L&B Locomotive Headlamp as carried by LYN

This lamp was on LYN when the L&B closed and is featured in various photos of the loco.

The 762 Club intend to bid on this item as a spiritual and fitting connection for our locomotive LYN and her links with the past and the Lynton & Barnstaple.
