Things have started to move more quickly again at Manning Wardle Project HQ , as more components start becoming real. We firstly report on progress with the dome covers and then have good news of more machining of parts being given the go-ahead.
Dome Covers
Ted, The Dorset Copperfish is making significant progress with our dome covers. Looking at photographs of the locomotives they appear perhaps rather diminutive, but not so. They are large pieces of brass when seen from close up!

Yeo ExePress 7 ‘Tech Special’
After some queries were raised by one of our suppliers, we have been looking again at our choices for balanced slide valves. We thought a ‘Tech Special’ edition outlining our choices and decisions for Yeo and Exe would be good to share.
YEO EXEPRESS
Firstly Season’s greeting to all our readers and followers. We hope 2026 is a healthy and happy New year for all.
As previously reported an order has been placed for manufacture of the brass dome covers. This follows our policy of spending time now to make difficult-to-source items. They will then be ready when the time comes and will not hold up completion of the project.
We anticipate some photographs of the domes being manufactured early next year around late January or early February so watch this space.
Yeo ExePress 5
Yeo ExePress gives a periodic update of progress to recreate our ‘Exmoor Ponies’. It is issued exclusively to 762 Club members and then more widely about a month later. It will now also be published to this page to make sure it reaches as wide an audience as possible.

Brake Hanger Brackets Now Completed
A quantity of 24 Brake Hanger brackets now completed!
Crankpins Nitrided!
As reported our suite of machined crankpins were dispatched to Aalberts surface technologies in Telford to be nitride treatment.
The accompanying photographs kindly supplied by Jamie Payton, Works Manager at the Telford facility show loading the crankpins into baskets for degreasing, stopped off painted areas before nitriding and then finally the parts coming out of the nitride furnace.
The crankpins have now been shipped from Aalberts and are in our storage container.
Our thanks to Aalberts Surface Technologies and Jamie for a professional job – well executed!

762 Club Announces Boiler Contract
The 762 Club is delighted to announce the award of the boiler build and commission contract for new build Manning Wardle locomotives YEO and EXE to Israel Newton & Sons Ltd.
F&WHR TV – “Moving Pictures One Hundred”
The latest edition of the F&WHR Moving Pictures “Moving Pictures One Hundred” published on the 8th November 24 features a range of articles. Notably Jon ‘Wol’ Whalley drops by the workshop where some of the 762 Club’s machining of componentry is in progress.
Fast forward to 20 mins 58 seconds and Jon speaks for some 2.5 mins on some of the castings and finished articles the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways have been working on for us under contract.
